The right attitude into the New Year

The right attitude into the New Year

The New Year of 2010 will be here in just another day. At this juncture, you have a simple choice; To choose how you will face this New Year.

No doubt some of the events or choices of 2009 may not have been ideal for you, and we are also never certain about what is ahead. But what we can control is how we will deal with the past and how we will face the future.

I was at the gym this morning and spoke to someone who was fired two weeks earlier and was quite bitter about the way she was treated. Although it was not a pretty situation, we need to be careful that we do not whine and complain continually about what did not go right or who wronged us, whether a boss, a spouse or a friend. Let’s not carry that attitude right into the New Year. Remember the first lesson in the Create Your Garden of Eden process: assess what is not right about your life, but don’t continually complain.

Instead, why not be thankful about what went right for you in 2009. You may be surprised at the number of things, if you just start looking and listing them.

And then acknowledge what did not go right in 2009, identify what you need to do to get back on track and step into the New Year with renewed hope, faith and optimism. Leave the old baggage behind and start a new journey with your head up.

Remember, just like the God the Creator looked out to the vast, dark void and determined to change it, you too can change your world, which is probably not as barren as you think. Follow his pattern and you will be on your way to having your ideal life – your Garden of Eden – in 2010.
